Riverside, CA – November 15, 2018 – Riverside African-American Historical Society, Inc. will be hosting the 26th Annual Martin Luther King Walk-A-Thon. The walk provides an opportunity for the residents of the Greater Riverside Community to gather in celebration of the life and legacy of this great American Nobel Peace Prize recipient and Civil Rights Leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The walk will be held Monday, January 21, 2019, the federal holiday that marks Dr. King’s birthday. The theme this year is “Walking for Peace and Justice.”

The walk will begin at Bordwell Park’s Stratton Community Center at 2008 Martin Luther King Blvd. and meander through the city ending at Riverside City College’s Digital Library at 4800 Magnolia Avenue. Volunteers will be stationed along the route for assistance as needed.

Registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Stratton Center at 2008 Martin Luther King Blvd. The walk will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m. at the entrance of the center. All registered participants will receive a commemorative T-Shirt. Free shuttle service back to Stratton Center will be available every half hour beginning at 11:00 a.m.

A registration fee of $25.00 is required of all participants. Children under 12 years old will be free. Proceeds from the walk will benefit the Riverside African-American Historical Society.

Festivities following the walk will include a special program and presentation of awards by honorary chair, Assemblymember Sabrina Cervantes, Judge Irma Poole-Ashberry, Congressman Mark Takano and Justice Richard Fields.

Music and entertainment will be provided.
